Aviation Biography

Robin has been involved with aviation since 1977 when he joined the RAF as an aircraft engineering technician. He has worked on a variety of helicopters and fast jets. He is still serving and currently works in the RAF Centre of Aviation Medicine at RAF Henlow.

Bitten by the flying bug, Robin first started flying in 1982 at the Mona Flying Club on Anglesey. Since then, he has also built two aircraft. Having amassed considerable experience in a variety of aircraft types, he became a Popular Flying Association (later to become the Light Aircraft Association) inspector in 1993. In his capacity as an LAA inspector, Robin also attends to the engineering needs of the Circus aircraft that are on the LAA register.

His aircraft (G-AZGY) is a Piel Emeraude, which he "rescued" in 2004. This very responsive aircraft is a delight to fly and has particular appeal due to the Spitfiresque shape of its wings.

Robin often takes his Border Collie (Mildred) flying. Apparently, she is an excellent observer and will bark once when she spots another aircraft. However, Robin claims that she is a completely rubbish navigator as she can only count to three.
